Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica)

2017_TAM_0986_D500.jpg@ Akurey Island, Reykjavik, Iceland

July 2017

Usually the winged subjects I photograph are of the aluminum variety, but we had an opportunity to see puffins in Iceland.  It was quite interesting to see how they run across the surface of the water to reach takeoff speed.  Only about a half-mile out of Reykjavik harbor is Akurey Island, an uninhabited island where a colony of these small seabirds nest.  Nikon D500 w/18-200 mm, processed with Aperture.
