HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08)

@ Rosyth, Scotland

June 2017

Our vacation cruise had a port of call in Rosyth, Scotland.  This port is also the home of Rosyth Dockyard, a large Royal Navy facility that recently completed the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.  Construction of Queen Elizabeth began in 2009 and she departed Rosyth a few days after this photo to undergo sea trials.  This ship class has been designed with twin islands, separating the running of the ship from flight operations. Unlike most large carriers she is not fitted with catapults and arrestor wires and is instead designed to operate V/STOL aircraft; her air wing will comprise of F-35B Lightning II fighter-bombers and Merlin helicopters.  Nikon D500 w/18-200mm, processed with Aperture and Panorama Stitcher.
